Biomedical Communications Alumni Association

UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO

After two long, virtual years, the Annual Conference for the Association of Medical Illustrators was once again in-person. This year it was held in Des Moines, Iowa, the corn capital of the Midwest US (and which this Canuck Exec member has called home for the past year).

Between captivating talks and engaging, hands-on workshops, BMCers across the years had a chance to connect and strengthen bonds. And, once again, our BMC community can boast multiple awards in both the Professional and Student categories at the Salon. Take a look at the list of award winners here. Several second-year BMC students were also recognized by the Vesalius Trust for their Master’s Research Projects and presented their work in a Student Showcase on Friday and Saturday. Year after year, our students and alumni set the standard for excellence in visual communication in the health sciences. We extend our congratulations to the award winners and celebrate all the work submitted to this year’s AMI Salon!

It was a joy to carry on our tradition of hosting an alumni luncheon for the BMCAA community, and this year we were joined by undergraduate students in the Biological/Pre-Medical Illustration at Iowa State University, who were also in attendance at the conference. Good Southern-inspired food and lively conversations were had. Celebrations continued with a fun night of ping pong, foosball, skee-ball, and darts at Ricochet, in downtown Des Moines.

Another summer and another conference season wrapped. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the AMI conference next year in Las Vegas (baby!).

Cheers,

Roxy

2022-23 Co-President
