Biomedical Communications Alumni Association

UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO

On a warm Saturday afternoon in mid-June, the BMCAA Exec hosted their first in-person event in over two years. The 77th Annual Gala was held at CRAFT Beer Market in downtown Toronto. BMCers (re)connected over eats and drinks, participated in a social ice-breaker game (which came with a prize!), and gathered at our makeshift photo booth, which, despite a technical snafu, even had Polaroid pics for those instant, long-lasting memories.

The sponsor for the social activity prize was BioRender, who put together a gift box of BioRender swag including t-shirts, mugs, and stickers. And our winner was Avila Sanchez - thanks for participating and congratulations! We hope you’ve been enjoying the goodies.

The rain held off and it was a sunny, perfect afternoon on the patio with a delightful gathering of current and incoming students (welcome, 2T4s!), as well as alumni from across the years.

The Thursday following this event, we held another Virtual Social and Trivia Night - back by popular demand. The teams in the lead were the 1T9 team [check team name] and the 2T4s. It was a battle of wits and (apparently) lots of movie & 1990s TV trivia. The reigning champs of Trivia were once again the 1T9s - congratulations! Most of all, we’re glad everyone had a great time hanging out and catching up.

The BMCAA Exec would like to extend thanks again to the sponsors who have generously supported the BMCAA over this past year and beyond. We are so excited to be able to host in-person events again and value our partnership with the numerous organizations that help us run events and programming that enrich our BMC community.

Finally, this Exec member wishes to thank the amazing BMCAA Exec team, half of whom have been pulling everything together from afar to make sure this event was a success, even though they wouldn’t be able to attend. It is inspiring and humbling to work amongst such dedicated, passionate people who work tirelessly to give back and keep our community strong. Cheers to you!
